About Our Firm
More Than Four Decades of Designing Experiences
For more than four decades, TK Architects has been designing places where people gather, connect, and create memorable experiences.
Founded in 1981 by Ted Knapp, TK was built on a simple but lasting idea: great design should bring people together. What began as an architecture-only firm has evolved into an internationally recognized, multidisciplinary practice with expertise in cinema, entertainment, food and beverage, retail, and mixed-use environments.
Today, TK brings architecture, interior design, graphic design, structural engineering, and MEP engineering together under one roof. But while our capabilities have grown, the values at the heart of the firm have remained consistent.
A Legacy of Leadership
Four Decades of Experience. Generations of Leadership.
Ted Knapp established the foundation for what TK would become, creating a firm defined by design expertise, entrepreneurial thinking, and a deep understanding of the places and experiences that bring people together.
That foundation was carried forward by the next generation of leadership. Mike Cummings, Jack Muffoletto, and Tamra Knapp played defining roles in shaping TK into the firm it is today. Through decades of leadership, they expanded the firm’s expertise, strengthened relationships across the entertainment industry, and helped TK grow from its Kansas City roots into a global design practice.
Their influence extends far beyond the projects they led. They helped establish a culture built on collaboration, technical excellence, innovation, and perhaps most importantly, relationships. Many of the clients, consultants, operators, vendors, and industry partners TK works with today are part of relationships that have been built and strengthened over decades.
The result is a legacy that is not simply measured in projects or years in business, but in the people and partnerships that continue to shape TK.

As Mike, Jack, and Tamra transition into retirement, TK enters its next chapter with a strong foundation and a clear vision for the future.
Today, a new generation of principals leads TK Architects, bringing their experiences, perspectives, and expertise to a firm they have helped shape. This next generation represents the natural evolution of TK, not a departure from our history, but a continuation of it.
Together, they are carrying forward the knowledge and relationships built over more than 40 years while looking ahead to the opportunities shaping the next generation of entertainment and experiential design.
